Provide your technician with an accurate and up-to-date medical history to receive safe and effective treatment.
Side effects are temporary and uncommon but may include erythema, swelling, temporary scarring, dryness, itching, and burning.
The following conditions are CONTRAINDICATIONS to laser treatments: history of melanoma, raised moles, suspicious lesions, keloid scar formation, healing problems, active infections, open lesions, hives, herpetic lesions, cold sores, tattoos, or permanent makeup in area of treatment, tetracycline, St. John’s Wort, or Accutane in the last year, autoimmune diseases such as Lupus, Scleroderma, Vitiligo, pregnancy, trying to get pregnant, or nursing. Clients with a pacemaker, internal defibrillator, or any other active electrical implant anywhere in the body may not receive laser treatments.
Clients who are prone to cold sores should take an anti-viral medication prior to the treatment.
Pre-Treatment
- Prior to your Sublative treatment, please observe the following:
- Avoid all alpha hydroxyl and beta hydroxyl products (AHA/BHA), Hydroquinone, retinols/retinoid, Tazorac, and Differin 7 days prior to treatment.
- Avoid sun exposure to any areas that will be treated 7 days prior to treatment. Treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.
- Avoid sunless tanning products on any areas that will be treated 7 days prior to treatment.
- If an active or extreme breakout occurs in the area to be treated before treatment, contact our office to reschedule.
- No chemical peels or laser treatments on any areas will be treated for a minimum of two weeks or until complete healing has occurred.
- Please come in without makeup and with cleansed skin on the area to be treated.
- If you are prone to histamine reactions (allergic), inform the Aesthetician prior to treatment.
- No red wine 2 days prior to treatment.
- Clients who have had Botox or dermal fillers in the area that will be treated need to wait 14 days before any laser treatments.
- We do not treat permanent makeup or tattoos.
Post-Treatment
- Your technician will apply a Recovery Serum and an SPF 50+
- Redness and swelling are normal and may feel like a sunburn; this should resolve in a few days to a week. Some people may react more and have redness for up to a month or longer. Notify the Aesthetician if it persists longer than a week.
- After treatment, you will see square imprints with small matrix dot formations of scabs that may remain on your skin for several days. The scabs should not be touched or scratched. Allow the skin to shed off naturally.
- Avoid irritants (glycolic acid, retinoids, etc.) until healing is complete and all redness resolves.
- Shaving should be avoided until comfortable. Begin shaving lightly.
- You may use regular cleansers and moisturizers. However, NO exfoliation for 7 days.
- Moisturizers may be applied several hours after treatment and should be applied regularly throughout the healing process.
- For the first 1-3 days, the skin will be red, tight, and dry. Some swelling may occur.
- No make-up for 6-12 hours. A mineral makeup is recommended after 6-12 hours.
- After 1-3 days, or as soon as it is comfortable to do so, you may return to regular skin care products.
- Use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. We recommended Daily Hydrate and Protect SPF 45+ by Absolute Beauty MD.
What To Avoid
- To ensure proper healing, be certain to observe the following:
- For at least 7 days post-treatment, do NOT use any alpha hydroxy acids, beta hydroxy acids, Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C (topical), or anything perceived as active skincare.
- Avoid intentional and direct sunlight for 48 hours. No tanning beds. Use an SPF of 30 or higher at all times.
- During the first 5 days following treatment, care should be taken to prevent trauma to the treated site: avoid hot tubs, swimming, massages, and saunas. The skin should be kept clean to avoid contamination or infection; any mechanical or thermal damage to the area must be avoided.
- No intense exercising or strenuous activity for the next 5-7 days post-treatment or until the area has returned to normal.
