Pre-Treatment Instructions 

  • Avoid skin irritation or intentional skin tanning.  
  • Wear sunscreen when outdoors during daylight hours. 
  • Discontinue any irritant topical agents for 2-3 days prior to treatment. 
  • Retinols or Tretinoins should be discontinued 5 days prior to treatment. 
  • A skin-lightening cream may be recommended by your provider. 
  • Arrive for treatment with clean skin. There should be no lotion, make-up, perfume, powder or bath/shower oil present on the skin in the 

Expectations

After the procedure, you should have minimal discomfort. We will apply a light layer of hyaluronic acid and recovery serum, followed by a mineral sunscreen. Initially, your skin will be very red, with mild swelling, mild burning, and some pinpoint bleeding. There should be no pain other than feeling dry and tight. Within the first three days, there will be some peeling; healing should be quick and uneventful. Let us know if you experience anything unusual.  

Side Effects 

  • Cold sores. Please call the office if this occurs.  
  • Hyperpigmentation. This is rarely seen. Please avoid sun exposure before and after the procedure. 
  • Redness and inflammation.  
  • Bleeding. Bleeding problems are rare. Do not stop any blood thinners. Let us know if you have any bleeding disorders.  
  • Infection. Please call the office if you develop an increase in pain.  
  • Scarring. This would be considered extremely rare.  

Post-Procedure Instructions  

  • Immediately after treatment, most patients will experience erythema (redness)for 1-3 days, for more aggressive treatments, this may last longer. Slight to moderate edema (swelling) and a mild to moderate sunburn sensation are also common post-treatment and may last 1-3 days. Skin may crust and peel for 2-7days depending on treatment settings. 
  • Before leaving, a topical recovery serum may be applied to the face; no bandages or wraps are necessary. 
  • There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently and avoid scrubbing or trauma to the treated area. 
  • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of hyperpigmentation. 
  • The use of a zinc oxide sun block SPF 30+ at all times after 24-48 hours. 
  • Multiple treatments over a period of several months may be required to achieve the desired results.
  • Use the home care regimen as recommended by your provider to obtain the desired results.
